silq

«silq» explores the use of particle systems for purely aesthetic purposes. I was particularly interested in revealing the elegance inherent in kinetic systems. As the beauty of nature is strongly connected to the laws of physics, I created a physical simulation of a rope displayed as a very transparent curve. Because the image is not cleared after each animation frame, the movement of the rope creates a surface. Small movements create darker surfaces, faster movements in lighter surfaces. The simulation mimics natural behavior, resulting in an image of organic nature, resembling silk or smoke.

«silq» was released in 2008 as an animation on DVD at leerraum [] where it can be purchased. It was exhibited at Sonic Acts XII in Amsterdam, at the Piano Factory in Boston and Bowerbird in Philadelphia.

«silq» was built with Processing.
